Research Method

Each year thousands of families visit this Website to help plan their vacations.   Many visitors return to the Website, provide ratings of destinations and add their travel experiences to our database.  These respondents represent a nationwide sample of households with children that have taken an overnight family vacation, at least fifty miles from home.  As destinations are updated, the oldest ratings, greater than five years, are removed....but comments remain.

Respondents provide the ages of their children, number of nights they stayed, and complete the survey that appears on the Rate a Destination page of this Website.  These vacationers rate the destinations they have visited on six key areas which influence a family's travel decisions, and they share their comments and suggestions

• Quality of accommodations measures how well the facility where you stayed met the needs of your family.

• Quality of activities measures how well the activities at the location met the needs of your children.

• Dining options measures the variety of restaurant choices close to this location.

• Value measures the perceived value for the dollars spent on the vacation.

• Likely to return measures the likelihood that you will come back to this location.

• Recommend indicates whether or not you would recommend this location to other families.
